Toddler Car Seats Reviews (9 months to 4 years or between 18 to 36 lbs.)

Security is important when investing in a new toddler car seat therefore it’s important to know the differences between the car seats on the market today.

FDM (Federation of Danish Motorists) has released their yearly toddler car seats reviews. They have tested Cybex Juno-Fix to have the best security and overall performance but there are generally many good car seats in this age group.

Below are the results of this year’s car seat tests and a small review of each car seat.

Toddler car seats - weight up to 36 pounds (9 months to 4 years)

  1. Cybex Juno-Fix
Mounting: Forward-facing. The best car seat in its class. Very safe toddler car seat that provides a child general good protection. Requires a lot of space in the car, so it is recommended to try to install the seat in the car prior to purchase. It’s stable, easy to install and remove and with a low risk of installation errors. Good seating comfort for the child. The chair has a general good finish, and the cover is easy to remove and clean.

  2. Kiwy SPF 1
Mounting: Forward-facing. Good and stable car seat. Low load at both frontal and side impacts. Low risk of incorrect installation. However, the chair is heavy, and it is difficult to fasten the child. Good legroom, upholstery and seating position. Be aware that the chair stand makes it not suitable for all cars. The chair cover is difficult to remove and can be washed by hand.

  3. Römer  Duo Plus
Mounting: Forward-facing. Well-known quality car seat with generally good results in the test. Stands steady on the seat. Good and easy clamping of the child. Low risk of incorrect assembly with good installation instructions. Comfortable seating position, good padding and legroom and good visibility for the child. The cover is easy to remove and machine washable.

  4. Cam Viaggiosicuro
Mounting: forward-facing. Car Seat with extra side-impact protection. The chair can also be adjusted in height without first removing the seat belts. The chair has good padding and provides among other things, good protection of the child's legs. The child sits well and has a good view from the chair. Hard to install, but with low risk of installation errors. The chair cover has a good finish, but is difficult to remove and clean.

  5. Concord Transformer Pro
Mounting: forward-facing. Good and light weight car seat. Comes with a pillow in front, used until the child weighs 30-36 pounds. Easy to install with a low risk of incorrect installation. Moreover, very good protection of the child's legs, but less good comfort. Toddler visibility is limited from the chair. Easy to remove and wash the cover, which has a very fine finish.

  6. Cybex Pallas 2
Mounting: forward-facing. Well-known quality toddler car seat with extra side protection. Be aware that it requires a lot of space in the car. The chair comes with a pillow. Use it until the toddler weighs 30-36 pounds and then remove it. Easy to install and low risk of incorrect installation. The child sits comfortably in the chair, but has limited visibility. Easy to remove and wash the cover, which has a very fine finish. Please note that for this chair to be the most stable, it may be necessary either to remove or turn the car's headrest.

  7. Casualplay Multiprotector
Mounting: forward-facing. Performing average in this test. It’s not suitable for tall children. Comes with a pillow that can be used until the toddler reaches 30 -36 pounds. Easy to install and low risk of incorrect installation. Securing the child may be difficult. In addition, the toddler’s legs have good support and the seating position is comfortable. However, the view from the chair is limited. Easy to remove and wash the cover, which has a very fine finish. Please note that for this chair to be the most stable, it may be necessary either to remove or turn the car's headrest.

  8. Chicco Neptune
Mounting: forward-facing. Very lightweight car seat with weaknesses in security tests. Comes with a five-point harness used until the child weighs 30-36 pounds. Then fasten the child with the car's three-point harness. Difficult to mount in the car, but with a low risk of installation errors. Easy to fasten the child. In addition, it has good leg support, and the view from the chair is good.

  9. Chicco Xpace
Mounting: forward-facing. Secure, but heavy car seat with extra side-impact protection. The chair can be adjusted in height without removing the seat belts. Stands securely on the car seat. Hard to install, but with low risk of installation errors. Hard padding and uncomfortable sitting position for the baby. However, good view from the chair. Cover is easy to remove and clean.

  10. Maxi Cosi Priori XP
Mounting: forward-facing. Average car seat. The test revealed however, weaknesses with both frontal and side impacts. Low risk of incorrect installation and good instructions. Easy to fasten the child. Good padding and a comfortable sitting position. Very good legroom for the child. The chair requires plenty of space in the car. This car seat has a good finish, and the cover is machine washable and easy to remove. The test revealed findings of harmful substances.
